Part One: Debunking the ‘Follow Your Passion’ Myth

In the vast expanse of career advice, the phrase “Follow your passion” often stands out as a beacon of guidance, especially when voiced by billionaires and icons of success. While inspiring at first glance, this advice may not be the universal key to success it’s often portrayed as. Let’s explore why this well-meaning suggestion is not as straightforward as it seems.

1. Luck: The Unacknowledged Companion

Success stories, particularly those of billionaires, frequently involve an element of luck – being at the right place at the right time. This factor, largely uncontrollable and unpredictable, plays a significant role in monumental success stories. Advising someone to follow their passion without recognizing the role of luck is like providing a map without a compass.

2. Unique Journeys, Unrepeatable Outcomes

Success is often a product of unique circumstances and personal journeys. What works for one individual may not be applicable to another, given different resources, backgrounds, and opportunities. Applying a one-size-fits-all approach to such varied life paths can be misleading and unrealistic.
